Pets in Shelter
At FRIENDS, Inc., we understand how important pets are to your safety, healing, and peace of mind. Certified service animals are always welcome in our shelter. While we are not able to accommodate other animals on-site, we partner with a trusted organization to provide safe, temporary boarding for dogs belonging to shelter residents (as availability allows).
To keep everyone safe and comfortable, dogs in this program must:
- Pass a behavior assessment before boarding can be approved.
- Have current rabies, distemper, and Bordetella vaccinations (required before intake).
- Be owned solely by you, with proof of ownership.
- Arrive with their own food and any medications they need, with written instructions.
While in boarding, dogs will not be available for visits. This helps reduce stress on the animal and maintain safety. If you leave shelter without reclaiming your dog, we will attempt to contact you and your emergency contact. If there is no response within 5 days, the dog may be surrendered.
